it's spring! already!

I went on a fairly long bike ride today, along a creek down to Town Lake, where I sprawled out in the grass between the hike & bike path and the dog playground. All kinds of dogs ran all around me, in circles, chasing frisbees, smelling my toes, coming to names like Maverick and Coen. Even with Burt's Bees sunscreen I still got burned in the sun and sweaty in the 83 degree weather. I have to say, this was my "true meaning of happiness."

So in between endless critiques and mindless art making, I did manage to experience the wonder that is Peter Pan Mini Golf.

Kneeling Peter statue, giant T-Rex, loop-d-loop, BYOB... seriously, what could be better?

p.s. I am currently the "west side" course champ (Clifford has nothing on my putt putt skillz)

As I search for some visual direction, and encouragement of heart...

Who would have thought: street view. I know its been around for a while - for me it was as if finding an unread love note from months ago. left in my jeans pocket and run through the wash. I miss Phila...

I know in time I will love Austin in a similar way. I think what I really miss is those who know me. and love me anyway. and share a hug on the dumpy days. funny how we can convince ourselves we are so far from home.

In case you needed to know where to see fantastic fall foliage, here is your guide.

meanwhile in Texas...  wouldn't you rather be in Big Bend?

Dear friends,

I had a great time this weekend. Wish you were here. There may be a postcard in your future, but in the meantime - My first real trip out West - a short picture story:

Wayyyy out there, near the Davis mountains was a small town called Marfa.

Is this big sky country?

Donald Judd's sculptures are much more spectacular from the inside.

Sunset near our campsite.

Fredricksburg: small town an hour or so west of Austin, with enough German to go around.

By the way: Ryan Bingham - pretty awesome live, perfect country western music for the ride home.

On that note, a road trip away made Austin "home" ... guess now I live in Texas.
